Meet my Captain

You may, or may not know, that I have been wanting
to come up with a blog name for my husband
other than hubs, hubby, husband, Kevin, etc.
None of those seemed right,
and he didn't care to be called hubs or hubby.
So, I've come up with an appropriate blog name . . . Captain,
and it is fitting since he is a Captain with the Fire Dept.

Let me take a few minutes and introduce you to My Captain.

He is committed to God and family

Father of the Bride, youngest daughter Whitney
Father of the Bride, oldest daughter Chelsey
Grandpa
Determined to help Tayvee draw her first Thanksgiving hand turkey
Sharing his job with our twin great-nieces

Henceforth in blogland, at Saltbox in the Country, Captain or My Captain
will refer to my wonderful, amazing husband, sweetheart and best friend,
who has stuck by me through thick and thin for 33 years,
who knows what it means and believes in always and forever.

Thanks for stopping by today and
meeting My Captain.
Have a great week!

Meet Someone New Monday . . . Amy Kinser

Today I would like to introduce you to my new friend,

AMY KINSER

I'm not sure how or when we met,
but when she was talking about opening an etsy shop,
I offered to help, and we've been talking ever since.
She lives in Tennessee [isn't it wonderful how, through blogging,
you can become friends with someone on the other side of the country?].
Her full time job is homeschooling her children.
Her blog motto: DEVOTED to God, Family, Home
She shares insights into her home, family and life,
and encourages all of us in blogland through her blog All Things Home.

Amy just opened her etsy shop last week, and she has a
wonderful selection of treasures in her shop, AmysAllThingsHome.

Here are just a few of my favorites . . .

If you haven't met Amy, please go check out her beautiful blog and her new shop.

Happy Monday!
Have a great week!
I'm glad you stopped by for a visit.

MEET SOMEONE NEW MONDAY ~ Little Reader Vintage

I'm excited to let you know
my youngest daughter, Whitney,
just opened a
vintage baby clothing shop on etsy,

Daughter Whitney and Sweet Granddaughter Tayvee

Now she is able to share her love of vintage shopping
and vintage clothing with others.
Her goal is for people to be able to buy vintage clothing
for their babies and toddlers without breaking the bank.
Whitney has also incorporated her name (Reeder)
and her love of reading into her shop [Little Reader Vintage]
and donates a percentage of all sales
to the Boise Public Library.
So when you buy from her shop,
you're also supporting reading and literature.

She carries clothing in size newborn through 4T,
shoes and some unique baby accessories.
She is selective on the items and styles she purchases.
Here's a sampling of a few items currently listed.

If you like any of these items or this style of vintage baby wear,
please check out her shop and let her know her mom sent you :).

Thanks so much for stopping by today.
I hope your week is wonderful!

MEET SOMEONE NEW MONDAY . . . Erin @ I Heart New England

I thought it only appropriate to introduce you to Erin at I Heart New England since we are currently in New England. She has an amazing travel blog about New England, and she has been so helpful with planning our trip. Thank you, Erin!

This is Erin. She describes herself as a"Twenty-two year old college student from Long Island, NY who dreams of New England on a daily basis ♥." She loves traveling in New England, has picked out a dream house, and dreams of living in Monadnock, New Hampshire.

Erin and her mom recently traveled to some of the New England states, and you can check out their trip on her blog. We are visiting and staying in some of the same places! She does a weekly feature called "B and B Friday" where she features three different Bed and Breakfasts in New England. She offers travel advice, which has been so helpful to us. She also features a book of the month and tasty recipes. This month it's apple recipes. How about some . . .

Maple Apple Crisp

1/3 cup flour
1/2 cup sliced almonds
2 tablespoons canola oil
2 tablespoons real New England maple syrup
1 teaspoon almond extract
Directions:
Mix sliced apples, lemon juice, cinnamon and syrup in a large mixing bowl.
Mix topping ingredients in a separate bowl and set aside.
Grease a 9" x 13" baking dish, and spread the apple mixture across the bottom of the pan.
Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until the apples are tender.
Spread the topping evenly over the apples and return the pan to the oven.
Bake an additional 20 to 30 minutes uncovered at 350 degrees until topping is crisp.
Note: Top with fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if you'd like.

Serves: 6-8 people

If you are planning a trip to the New England states, want to see some beautiful pics, or learn more about New England, her blog is a must see. She has helped us so much with our trip, from finding bed and breakfasts to general places to see.

I hope you meet Erin and say hi, and learn something new about New England; a beautiful part of the United States with so much history.

Thanks for visiting.
We are loving our trip to New England! Today is our last day in Connecticut. We have visited 5 states (Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut) in 6 days. No time for blogging, but I look forward to posting some pics when we get back!
Happy travels.

MEET SOMEONE NEW MONDAY . . . Debra at Common Ground

She lives in Missouri and has two grown daughters who are both married.
She and her husband love antiques and vintage goods.
In her profile Debra says, "My Christian faith is the foundation of my life
and has sustained me through the ups and downs of the journey."

If you want some spiritual encouragement, check out Debra's blog, Common Ground.  She  teaches an amazing online Bible study. I love how she shares her faith with the world. Debra shares inspiration from others and gives inspiration. She is very talented and has dealt with antiques for years and has a booth in an antique store. I love seeing what she is doing with her displays at her booth and at home.

Debra is currently teaching from the book of Galatians. If you're not involved in a Bible study or just want to learn more about God, check it out. I have enjoyed it during the summer when my Precepts Bible study takes a break.

She also makes beautiful jewelry and sales it on Etsy at Debrasvintagedesign. You can see her jewelry blog here.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy meeting Debra and stop by her blog and leave a comment. She is an inspiration.

I'm busy getting things ready for my sale and our trip to New England. If anyone has any "must sees" in New England, please email me and let me know. We've never been there before.  I'll post some projects and practice vignettes soon.

MEET SOMEONE NEW MONDAY ~ Cynthia @ Design Love

Welcome to Meet Someone New Monday ~ A new weekly blog post where you can meet someone new.  It's all about getting to know someone new and making a new friend!

Today I want you to meet Cynthia from Design Love. I came across her blog a few months ago and was amazed at what she and her husband have been doing in renovating their 130 year old farm house (I think I left a comment on almost every post).  Of course, I am always inspired by anyone living my dream and fixing up an old home.

My Photo

Cynthia lives in Ontario, Canada, and is a busy and talented lady. She is a nurse and has two beautiful daughters. She just started blogging in June and blogs about the things she loves. She designs and her husband builds it. What a great design team!

Check out their farm house in the city! Isn't it gorgeous? I love that architecture and porch.

Cindy's post about the front side . . .

"The porch needs a peak, In my opinion over the door with some nice
details, and I really want to add trim around the front door. If you have
any ideas, please let me know........ My front door is called Super Nova
by Benjamin Moore and I just love it...Purple, eggplant color, so great
against the orange brick!!!!"

Look at this garage that Cynthia designed and her husband built. Her husband is very talented too!

In August, they added this tree bench. Doesn't it look like it's been there forever?

Here's their new kitchen and some of her post . . .

"I LOVE the island, it's so big and I had to have the microwave in it,
as I hate seeing them on counters, and over stoves. Works well for us!!"

"I really LOVE the country feel and keeping with the style of the
house, so casual, but pretty! I have something special for above
the sink! Pics to follow......"

and their dining room. They added the fireplace.

I can't wait to see the rest of their house! Please go visit Cindy's beautiful blog and say hi.

Hope you like Meet Someone New Monday! Each Monday I hope to introduce you to someone new. Isn't this a great way to meet people and take a peak into their lives from anywhere in the world? Who knows . . . maybe you'll be next. If I haven't met you, I look forward to meeting you.
Have a great week!

~ Julie
